UNVEILING AT VILLA D'ESTE.
MINI is looking at its next big step to expand the product range, its customer base and further upgrade its image and reputation for fun cars. It does it at what is considered the most elegant event of the year. The traditional Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este 2014 with a very special concept: the MINI Superleggera™ Vision.
So sexy and so MINI that it can go only in two direction: the market place.
Last year BMW merged its creativity forces with those of Pininfarina and delivered the Gran Lusso Coupe. This time it is up to to MINI design team and the reborn Touring Superleggera. The outcome is a new and exclusive interpretation of an open-top two-seater.
The MINI Superleggera ™ Vision is on the one hand a classic two-seater roadster, compact and agile, very British in its most minimalist approach and its and emotional style of open-air motoring.
There is more to it than just names and style. Reflecting the spirit of the time, the Mini Superleggera Vision comes with an innovative electric drivetrain that gives the car distinctly modern driving dynamics.
The joint efforts succeed in delivering a unique model that blends the tradition of classic coachwork construction with the MINI’s authentic British accent to create timeless aesthetic appeal. Inside and outside, the form is reduced to the maximum extent so as to achieve a clear focus on the distinctive driving experience.
On its turn, the interior reflects traditional coachwork construction in terms of materials and styling, combined with the icons of MINI interior design.
High-end materials such as leather, aluminum and black chrome highlight the clear aesthetics of the interior, complete the picture.
Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design on the concept: "Touring Superleggera and MINI have much in common: both companies attach great importance to their history and this is something which defines their outward appearance to this day. What is more, they both emphasize iconic design and distinctive solutions. These elements are merged in the MINI Superleggera(TM) Vision to create an elegant automobile which interprets a British roadster under the influence of Italian style and hand craftsmanship."
More in the next few days after we talk to Adrian van Hooydonk, Anders Warming, and our friends at Touring Superleggera.
